iOS 5.0.1 Jailbroken

Today is a good day for people who had chosen to sacrifice their jailbreak and update to iOS 5.0.1 for better battery life. Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 was released, which jailbreaks iOS 5.0.1, but is still tethered.

NOTE: This version of Redsn0w does not jailbreak the iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

Simply follow these steps in order to jailbreak your device running iOS 5.0.1:

1. Download and install the latest version of iTunes from here 2. Make sure your device is running iOS 5.0.1. We strongly recommend you do a fresh restore to this firmware before jailbreaking. 3. Download Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 for Windows or Mac 4. Run Redsn0w and click on Extras, then Select IPSW. 5. Select the iOS 5 firmware file (if you are having trouble with this step, check out this guide on downloading iOS firmware). 6. Click Jailbreak and select Install Cydia then follow the instructions to get your device in DFU mode. Once the device is in DFU Mode, Redsn0w will jailbreak the device. 7. Since this is a tethered jailbreak, you must Boot Tethered every time you want to power on your device. To do this click Extras, then click Just Boot, after that just follow the instructions on-screen and let Redsn0w take care of the rest!
